I use a variety of plugins on my WordPress.org blogs and love finding new ones! Plugins can make your blog shine and make everyday blogging easier.
What are plugins?
Plugins are used for adding additional functionality to your WordPress blog and connecting external services to your blog, such as Google Analytics, Pinterest, SEO tools, etc.
You can add as many plugins to your site as you’d like, however keep in mind adding too many might slow the speed of your site. Also, be careful adding plugins that seem odd or not very well made because they can give your site problems.
When looking for new plugins I like to choose ones that have 2,000+ installations and 4+ star reviews. All the plugins I suggest below meet these qualifications.
Here’s 6 Essential Plugins to Make Blogging Easier:
This plugin is great because it blocks spam traffic such as websites that is use your site to link to their own site. This kind of traffic can mess up your google analytics reports including your bounce rate, traffic stats, etc reflecting inaccurate analytics making it look like more visitors are coming by that aren’t real people. This gets in the way of giving you the actual information you really need to improve your blog and see how users are really engaging with your content.
One example of spam traffic is a site called “copyrightclaims.org” which was crawling my sites and messing up my traffic. Thankfully I found this article which helped me figure out how to stop this from happening.
Yoast is awesome for so many reasons, my favorite is because they have an awesome SEO tool which shows you how good of a job you are doing with SEO on your site. This plug in has helped me learn the basics of SEO without having to do a ton of research on the subject, which I find very confusing. Their tool simplifies things and after creating a handful of blog posts, I was able to create a method of creating SEO-friendly posts quickly and easily.
This plug in works in conjunction with MailChimp which is my favorite email newsletter platform. Mail munch has created an awesome tool for allowing you to add a FREE Subscribe bar, pop up or widget to your blog. This will help you gain email newsletter subscribers and help you connect with your audience, therefore driving more traffic to your blog.
This is a MUST if you are using Pinterest to grow your brand and build your audience. This widget allows your blog to have a “Pin It” button displayed in the top left corner of all your photos making it super easy for followers to Pin your images to their boards, therefore sharing your posts with more people!
AddThis is a very powerful tool that plugs right into your blog and each post, allowing your posts to have Share buttons for any type of social media you prefer. Their buttons are very colorful, simple and easy to use making it very easy for your audience to easily share your content across the web. Another MUST for getting your content infront of a larger audience.
I love this widget because it allows me to have an editorial calendar built right into my blog, showing me a calendar view of all my posts that are scheduled throughout the month. An editorial calendar is super useful for organizing your content and giving you the “big picture” of your blogging. Once you install the plug in, you can find the calendar under the “Posts” dropdown menu.
