Getting burnt out is something many mompreneurs experience when trying to juggle the demands of new customers, creating products and getting your brand out there when starting a business. Add your homelife, children and family time to the mix and it sounds like a recipe for….disaster!
Here's four simple tips to avoid getting burnt out while running you home business.
Here's 4 tips to avoid getting burnt out while running your home business
1. Avoid checking email after a dinner
Checking email can quickly become a intrusive habit, and this habit can take over your life and even destroy your productivity. When we check our email we are sending a message to our brain that say's “Hey, lets start thinking about work again!” which is exactly the opposite message we want to send ourselves after we've enjoyed a nice family meal and are starting to unwind from a busy day already focused on business.
Keep in mind, the evenings should be the time you spend with your loved ones and preparing to rest your body for another busy day tomorrow. Checking email after dinner gets us fixating on all the urgent business matters that can most likely wait until tomorrow. You will definitely get burnt out if you check your email when you're trying to wind down everyday.
2. Move your body
I try to get my body up and out of my chair at least once per hour. I'll stand up, bend over to stretch my legs, walk around my living room and even do some push-ups or some basic yoga stretching. Sitting all day in front of a computer is literally one of the most unnatural things a human can do, and it's really taking a toll on our precious bodies. Nonetheless, using a computer is part of our daily lives now, but we must counteract the side effects by giving our bodies the chance to do what they are meant to do: run, play and move around as much as possible.
Walking outside is also a great way to clear your mind when you're having a lack of inspiration. Whenever I need to jumpstart my brain I put on some comfy clothes and sneakers, and head out the door. I always return feeling refreshed and ready to continue building my business!
3. Plan your meals ahead of time
If you're anticipating a super busy day, planning your meals ahead of time will ensure your body gets the fuel it needs to keep your mind focused and ready to handle anything that comes up. It will also save you precious time when you get hungry. If you have a pre-made lunch sitting in the fridge all you have to do is go to the kitchen and you'll be fed . Otherwise you'll have to take time to either: leave the house and forage for something to eat, take time out of your busy day to prepare a meal for yourself, or worse…starve! And god knows a starving mompreneur is never a pleasant woman to be around! So do yourself a favor and plan your meals ahead of time. You do it for your children, so do it for yourself too!
Planning your meals ahead of time will also ensure you will stick to a healthy diet. We all know what it's like to get to that point of STARVING and how delicious those potato chips look….and then somehow…where did all the potato chips go? In your belly is where they went! And no fruits, veggies or protein joined them. That's no way to treat our bodies, so plan ahead!

4. Set realistic expectations for what you can accomplish each day
How long is your to-do list today? Does it have 10 projects that are all sure to take an hour each? Maybe its time to think about spreading those projects throughout the week. Setting realistic expectations on what you can actually accomplish in one day is important for avoiding burnout when starting a business. We all want to be productive, but you don't want to drive yourself crazy trying to get too much done in one day. Examine your list and figure out the most important and time sensitive projects to complete and prioritize those for today. Then, spread the other projects out over the next few days. This will make running your business a pleasure and not a daily headache.
Stay sane and productive
I know you have a lot on your plate, but I also know you can succeed in your business adventures if you pace yourself and take care of your body. Take the time to practice these tips so you can actually enjoy your business adventure without doing the crash and burn.
