Today is the first post in a weekly segment on MompreneurAdvice.com called “Inspiration Monday” where we discuss inspiring topics to start your week. These posts are meant to get your mind thinking and productivity flowing.
This weeks’ Inspiration Monday post
We all could use inspiration in our daily lives. One of my most loved ways to find inspiration is through listening to inspiring podcast’s in iTunes (you can find them inside the purple icon on your iPhone). I love listening to a very popular podcast called Glambition Radio – Ali Brown | Entrepreneur, Mentor, and Business Coach for Women. This is one of my most favorite podcasts and ways to start a Monday. I like to go on walks in the morning to get out of the house and fill my brain with clean, fresh air while saying “hello” to the day. I bring my headphones and my iPhone and listen to one of Ali’s many inspiring episodes about business, success, motherhood and balancing it all. She interviews a myriad of the top women in business and her podcasts always leave me excited to come home and start being productive.
This morning I listed to an episode featuring Jenny Fenig discussing her new book “Get Gutsy: A Sacred, Fearless Guide for Finding Your Soul’s Calling and Living Your Dream.” I loved Jenny’s story and her message inspiring women to get out there and achieve their goals and dreams.
In the podcast Jenny talks about finding balance between her business successes and being a dedicated mother to her three young children. I was inspired to learn that she regularly works only 20-30 hours per week and makes time to spending time with her children a priority. She discloses her personal secrets to balancing it all while still achieving great levels of success with her business and new book.
Here’s Jenny’s tips for balancing business success with motherhood:
Make use of productivity tools such as Asana
Making good use of your time is crucial to balancing motherhood and business duties. Staying focused while you are working is key to being productive and efficient. Jenny likes to use productivity tools such as Asana to help her manage products with her team and make sure deadlines are met.
Ask for help
Hire a babysitter if you are able to and dedicate the time away from your children to getting work projects taken care of. Asking for help with childcare or errands from your family and friends can also make a huge difference in avoiding being overwhelmed by it all. If you are unable to do either, get creative with utilizing nap time and occupied play times to work on a project, check emails, or if you need it, take a break! No body wants to feel like they are drowning just to start a business. Yes, a business takes a great amount of time and energy, but it doesn’t mean you need to lose your sanity over it. Make sure, if you need it, to ASK FOR HELP.
Take care of yourself so you can be on point during work hours
Taking care of your body, mind and spirit will be crucial to the success of your business. There is no use in creating a business, being successful and then losing your health over it. Remember, your body is THE ONLY THING you will have for the rest of your life so you MUST take care of it as one of your top priorities. Jenny (and I) greatly suggest yoga (in fact Jenny is a yoga teacher), deep breathing, getting adequate sleep and filling your body with nutritious meals. She also very highly recommends Getting Silent. This means being alone when possible, sitting in a quite place and letting your mind relax. I find this super helpful and practice this daily, most often while taking my morning walk.
Create a Harmonious Space for yourself to work
Creating a dedicated harmonious space for you to work on emails, make phone calls and generally run your business while you are at home is key. Keep your space free of clutter and tidy up at the end of your workday, or even throughout your workday. Having a space that is free of unnecessary clutter will help keep your mind sane on those extra busy days. Also, I find if I keep my space clean and tidy then I gravitate towards it and am always excited to sit down work on my business. This helps my mind focus on work related tasks, rather then thinking about how messy my desk is.
Here’s a few other tips of my own I’d like to add to this list:
- Celebrate your achievements
- Say thank you to god or the universe when you achieve your goals
- Take time to think about how you got to where you are, what worked for you and what didn’t
- Share your achievements with your loved ones so they can celebrate with you
