Over the years I have met many very successful women entrepreneurs and have also been very successful in the business world myself. In meeting these successful women, and noticing character traits in myself, there have been several common denominators among us which I believe to be the personality traits that help us in being so successful in business, and also in our personal lives. I've broken it down into:
- Attention to detail
- Kindness
- Willingness to do what it takes to get the job done
- Endurance
- Passion
- Believing in yourself
- Positivity
- Confidence
- Knowing when to change your direction
Here's 9 habits of highly successful women entrepreneurs
Attention to detail
As many people say, “It's all in the details!” If you only focus on the big picture, like “I'm going to sell 1 million t-shirts!!” and only focus on creating the design of your t-shirts then you probably won't actually get the opportunity to sell 1 million t-shirts. The details are truly where the magic happens.
Finding the best materials, the best manufacturers, creating a beautiful and highly functional website, making sure orders can be placed by customers online in an efficient and effective manner, creating a great sales pitch…you get the point! If you don't focus on these details, when a customer goes to your website to order your super awesome t-shirt and the site won't let their payment go through, then you've just lost a sale and most likely a customer.
The details are also in the emails you write to customers and suppliers, the copy you write on your website and how you introduce yourself and your business. Successful women entrepreneurs are usually very detail oriented in one way or another.
Kindness
Never underestimate the power of kindness! Kindness has helped me immensely in the business world. Is your supplier limited on supplies? Then kindness might be the only factor in determining if they sell their supply to you or one of your competitors. Have a customer complaint? Kindness can solve any problem and will earn you a great reputation. Be kind and you will be rewarded.
Willingness to do what it takes to get the job done
If you aren't willing to put in the extra time, effort, attention or love into your business, then you probably aren't going to be very successful. Sometimes this means staying up late after the kids have gone to bed to finish emails for the day, waking up extra early to package the remaining orders before the postman arrives, or tediously contacting every single person on your list to get the word out about your new product. Do what it takes to get the job done and you'll be grateful you put in the extra effort!
Endurance
This is definitely the name of the game. Creating a successful business doesn't just happen overnight, even when it seems like for some people it does. Usually there are many months (or even years!) for your business to skyrocket. Having the endurance to continue on your path, even when you're tired, ready to quit and can't see the light at the end of the tunnel is so important to being a successful woman entrepreneur. So, keep up the good work! You're gonna get there!
Passion
Passion is key to being a successful entrepreneur! If you aren't even passionate about what you're spending your time doing every single day then you are literally just wasting your precious time and energy. Instead, focus energy into a business that gets your excitement flowing and brings a genuine smile to your face and you'll want to pour every single available ounce of yourself into your business, making it successful and a wonderful journey!
Believing in yourself
This one can be harder for women. We have a tendency to not believe in ourselves and to tell ourselves that we can't really accomplish our gigantic hopes and dreams. However, I'm here to tell you today that YES YOU CAN! If your heart really wants to do something, then just figure out a way to make it happen! This is one of the biggest tricks I've used to get myself to the level of success in business I have been to. I truly believed in myself and that I could create a huge, successful business. And you know what? I did! And I was only 25 years old at the time when I started telling myself this.
Positivity
YES! I absolutely LOVE positivity! It's my #1 favorite way to be! Can you tell? hahaha… But it's so true that being positive can really get you positive results. And I'm not talking about being a bimbo and running around believing that everything is always hunky-dory. I'm talking about being positive when you're facing adversity. Being positive when you're facing difficulty. Seeing the positive in a negative situation. Because there is always a positive.
Just had a huge order sent back to you because it was defective? Well, now you've learned not to use that _______ (fill in the blank) again. Lost an account because you accidentally said the very wrong thing to the owner of the company? Ok, well now you know what not to say in the future.
There's always a positive that can come out of a negative. And, you can also enjoy being positive about POSITIVE THINGS! That's even more of a rush! Just landed a huge account? Way to go mama! Your hard work just paid off! See, it's really quite fun being positive and will definitely help you in your journey to becoming a successful women entrepreneur 🙂
Confidence
I'm an Aries so confidence comes pretty naturally to me. However, there are times when I'm lacking confidence which are precisely the times that I have to choose a “fake it 'till you make it” attitude. This type of attitude has really helped me break through during times when my confidence was low and I needed it to be super high.
Confidence will win you the account, keep you on your path and let others know that you have what it takes to pull it off. So, make sure you exude confidence, even when you aren't filled with it.
Knowing when to change your direction
Sometimes business goals don't pan out. Or sometimes your business takes you in a direction you were not planning to go. For example, you might be selling t-shirts, but someone approaches you and really, really likes your designs and wants to put them on gym bags instead. You probably were not planning on selling gym bags, but this customer wants to buy a ton of gym bags with your artwork on them. Are you going to tell them no? Hopefully not because it's not that hard to find a company who can print your design on a gym bag! Catch my drift?
Sometimes it also means knowing when to stop going in the direction you are heading in. If you've been pouring your heart and soul into a business project that nobody seems to really be that interested in what you're putting out there, you may want to consider if it's truly worth more time, money and energy. Or if this is the best time to launch that specific project. Sometimes waiting is the name of the game.
Knowing when to change course is very important if you want to be a successful business woman. I've changed course many times. And you know what? I'm really glad I did! There's nothing worse than putting my money into something that isn't going to yield much in return. I'd rather throw in the towel and start another project, or modify my existing plan, than be stubborn and not know when it's time to quit.
