Ready to setup your small home office? In this post I share several types of small home offices you can create in a tiny space.
Why setup a small home office?
If you're planning to start a home business, or work from home at a job, one of the best things you can do for yourself is create a designated home office space. I've spent many years working from home as a mom and can honestly say, having a designated space for work and work tools helps me be more productive and avoid frustration.
Having to constantly search for things I need while working not only takes up time but also creates frustration which is counterproductive to being successful. Additionally, creating a sanctuary space for retreating to work is important for meeting business and work goals while working where your family lives.

If you live and work in a small space, there are unique challenges to working from home. Unlike larger homes which may have a designated room for a home office, a tiny home or small space will require flexibility for working from home. It's not the end of the world however, creating a small home office without an extra room is totally possible. In this post you'll find inspiration.
Types of small home office spaces
Depending on your living space, you will need to consider they type of home office space that works for you and your family. In my experience, there are several types of home office spaces that you can set up in a tiny space:
Dedicated workspace desk with storage
An example of this type of home office space would be a desk with storage built into it, such as filing cabinets, or a desk with storage right next to it. This is ideal as it makes your workspace efficient, however this is not always feasible for all homes. Ideally, your desk is located in a space that is secluded from other areas of the home and has enough space for all of your work tools. This type of workspace allows you to have a desktop computer if you desire.
Dedicated workspace with storage nearby
Another option is to have a table or desk where you can set up a laptop or device with you are ready to work, with storage nearby such as in a closet or another part of the room or house. This scenario would be perfect if you cannot fit a desk with attached storage into your space, but have room for a table. Workspace storage could be filing cabinets, bookshelves, and/or storage bins.
Mobile workspace with storage nearby
This is the least desirable type of work space, however this may be your first option before your home business starts making more money when you can upgrade. Having a mobile work space at the very least can help you stay sane and organized. This type of work space can include a lap desk near an outlet with a chair or sofa, as well as nearby storage for other business items, such as a closet or cabinet.
